New Blue Balkan Ensemble, featuring Eric Golub - violin, Tommy Kesecker - marimba, Vince Delgado - dumbek, Buca Necak -bass, and Akira Tana - drums. Since the original recording, the New Blue Balkan Ensemble's format has become even more adventurous featuring modern arrangements of ethnojazz and a free musical style. The addition of Akira Tana on drums modernizes the ensemble even further evoking the spirit of John Coltrane and Elvin Jones. Rhythmically, Akira and Vince create stimulating and creative rhythm patterns.

Dexter's Mode Hard Bop Quintet is a trumpet-tenor or a two tenor frontline ensemble saluting the music of Dexter Gordon, with whom I had the great pleasure of working in Denmark and Austria. The hard bop quintet performs originals of Dexter, Sonny Clark, and Woody Shaw which Dexter recorded with Woody. This ensemble recorded live at Yoshi's. The two tenor frontline ensemble features tenor saxophonists Noel Jewkes & Rob Roth with a swinging rhythm section of Paul Keller and Chuck McPherson. Trumpeter Al Molina joins the ensemble at certain events.

The New Young At Heart Ensemble, featuring Noel Jewkes, Pete Yellin, Rob Roth on tenors; Josh Workman on guitar; Chuck McPherson on drums; Hector Lugo on Afro-Cuban percussion. The group features authentic straight ahead swinging bebop saluting Lester Young, Charlie Parker, and Count Basie. Newly added modern material includes the music of John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, James Moody, Afro-Cuban bebop and new original material.

Mr. Vuckovich conducts piano clinics detailing the styles of great pianists such as Bud Powell, Bill Evans, Red Garland, and Erroll Garner. Mr. Vuckovich at the 2005 IAJE clinic in Long Beach presented this clinic and performance to a standing ovation. He also teaches the styles of other great jazz pianists.

Mr. Vuckovich is available to work with singers for accompaniment, style development and coaching. Impulse!: The House that ‘Trane Built is an accurate description of this prestigious label of top-quality ‘60s jazz recordings of: John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins and Oliver Nelson’s Blues and the Abstract Truth, featuring its signature track Stolen Moments. The label launched in early 1961 with its own slogan: "The New Wave Of Jazz Is On Impulse!" Creed Taylor and his successor Bob Thiele fulfilled that promise in a variety of musical directions. Dexter Gordon was the first tenor saxophonist to translate Charlie Parker’s bebop language from alto to tenor saxophone. He soon went on to develop his own personal, unique tenor saxophone sound and style that would influence such future greats as John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. This evening’s program will focus on Dexter’s famed works and recordings from the fruitful 1960s Blue Note and Prestige recordings. Dexter's Mode Hard Bop Quintet is a trumpet-tenor or a two tenor frontline ensemble saluting the music of Dexter Gordon, with whom I had the great pleasure of working in Denmark and Austria. The hard bop quintet performs originals of Dexter, Sonny Clark, and Woody Shaw which Dexter recorded with Woody. This ensemble recorded live at Yoshi's. The two tenor frontline ensemble features tenor saxophonists Hadley Caliman & Noel Jewkes with a swinging rhythm section of Jeff Chambers and Eddie Marshall.

Maxine Gordon (Dexter's widow) will be present in a question and answer presentation. Maxine will also show a rare video featuring one of Dexter's last performances, as well as exhibiting some classic Dexter photographs.

The Legends of Jazz mini tour in Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, and Denver: May 7th - 10th, presented by Singer and Simpson Production, including pianist Larry Vuckovich, and four other jazz masters: bassist John Heard (Los Angeles), drummer Eddie Marshall (San Francisco), tenor sax player Hadley Caliman (Seattle), and trombonist Julian Priester (Seattle). Classic American Jazz doesn't get any better than this! Five 50-year veteran performers reunite for an experience of the jazz art at its highest level.
