Larry Vuckovich Swinging All-Stars featuring Alvon Johnson: Wednesday, May 8 , 8 PM @ Yoshi's Jack London Square
After Larry Vuckovich’s performances and experiences with some of the greatest Latin percussionists in the world, Jose Mangual (formerly with Charlie Parker and Erroll Garner), Frankie Malabe, Pete Escovedo, Louis Romero, John Santos and Hector Lugo, Larry formed his Latin band, La Orquesta El Vucko, that included Louis Romero and Hector Lugo. Yoshi’s Wednesday, May 8th concert, will include swinging Bebop, Brazilian, World Music, besides the hard-hitting Afro-Cuban jazz, plus funky boogaloo blues rhythms. Alvon Johnson will sing some authentic blues as well as sophisticated standards – projecting his beautiful vocal sound. Percussionist Hector Lugo, who also has a beautiful voice, will sing some famous boleros, cha-cha’s + more. The rest of the band includes a powerful rhythm section with Larry on piano, Buca Necak, bass and Jeff Minnieweather on drums. This is a program not to be missed!

Internationally Acclaimed Jazz Pianist/Composer Larry Vuckovich and KCSM's esteemed DJ Chris Cortez, take the audience on a Virtual Journey of the great clubs in San Francisco area, from the 50s and 60s. This Four-Part Series on KCSM's I'm Talkin’ Jazz, took place Sundays in April, 2020
50s and 60s era was the heyday of the amazing activity that jazz had throughout San Francisco and Bay Area, featuring regularly such great visitors as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Harry James, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, and Bill Evans Trios, Dexter Gordon, Wes Montgomery, and many others. Additionally San Fran's resident outstanding musicians as John Handy, Cal Tjader, Vince Guaraldi, Richard Wyands, Dave Brubeck, Brew Moore, Eddie Duran and numerous others, performed frequently. Larry and Chris feature exciting recordings, plus Larry Vuckovich recounts many interesting historic stories from those days, having freshly arrived as a teenager from former Yugoslavia, experiencing the new music, and also having personal connection with those greats. Larry was awarded the 2019 Outstanding Jazz Musician award at the Annual 7 Mile House Jazz Fest in Brisbane, CA.

Larry was honored in August at the Nišville Festival in Serbia (8/8/19 - 8/11/19). He received a Lifetime Achievement Award for being the only jazz musician from the former Yugoslavia, residing and performed with numerous greats in the US for over 60 years. Larry appeared at the Nišville Festival in Serbia as a guest soloist with the big band. Larry also presented a jazz piano workshop.
